Marijuana can be energetic?
The Cannabis plant has multiple species with slightly different genetics. Indica, Sativa and Hybrids are the most commonly described in medical marijuana dispensaries.
Indica dominant strains generally affect the body and are more physical than mental. They are good for pain relief and relaxation. They can aid in relieving headaches, spasms and inflammation. Many patient identify Indica’s as being good for sleep and because Indica cannabis has more CBD content than other species, Indica’s could be great for reducing the frequency of seizures and the severity of convulsions.
While Indica’s may calm the body and mind, Sativa dominant strains generally affect emotions and stimulate brain activity. Sativa’s generally are energizing and uplifting. They are good for increasing energy levels, relieving headaches and nausea and boosting our immune system. Many patients describe that Sativa’s help them to concentrate. Like Indica’s, Sativa’s also have anti-inflammatory and pain relieving properties, but patients are able to smoke marijuana without the sedative effects. Hybrid strains are a blend of both.
The difference between a Sativa and Indica plant can be seen to the trained eye. Indica plants are typically short, cone shaped, densely branched and have dark green and wide leaves, sometimes with a hint of purple. Sativa strains have narrower leaves, are lighter in color and grow tall and thin.
Patients usually don’t get to see the untrimmed plant, and subtle color differences in the buds may not be obvious to some, so how can you tell the difference? Often you can rely on the crazy names of strains to identify their effects. Use the difference in scent and texture (and eventually taste) to decide what works best for you.
