Strain: Sour Diesel
Category: Sativa
Genetics: Chemdawg x Skunk
There was a time, 10 years or so ago, when Sour Diesel was easily the most sought-after strain in medical cannabis. The original genetics were only available by clone and quality flowers commanded staggering prices. In the years since, supply of this superior strain has stabilized, making it a staple on medical menus around the country. While many growers have moved on to newer varieties, we’re proud to provide this elite classic to patients in the District.
Sour Diesel’s origin story is well-known to cannabis connoisseurs: a few bag seeds of quality Colorado Chemdawg genetics found their way into the hands of an East Coast grower at a Grateful Dead concert and soon produced some of the most popular cannabis plants on the planet. Countless variations now exist under numerous names, but the true “Sour D” remains the most famous among them.
This lofty reputation is easy to understand upon sampling the strain for the first time. Patients will begin by discovering Diesel’s fuel-tinged flavor with lemony undertones that gave the strain its name. As its taste lingers on the tongue, its medicinal effects exemplify its sativa-leaning hybrid genetics, producing the pronounced mood-elevation and stress-relief for which it is well known. Though generally categorized as a sativa, Sour Diesel also provides enough pain relief from its hybrid side to suit patients who need daytime symptom relief while avoiding the sedative effects of an indica.
At Capital City Care, we’re committed to curating a menu that includes classic genetics with a time-tested reputation for pleasing patients and that’s exactly why we’re prioritizing this important plant. Sour Diesel is a strain with a rich history and a welcome place on our menu as we look towards the future.
